Snowmass ski resort is part of a four mountain range that offers the best terrain, steepest vertical drops, and best variety of Rocky Mountain skiing for all levels. It is Aspen's largest mountain with the largest open glade terrain and longest runs. Located in the White River National Forest and 9 miles from downtown Aspen, the landscape views on Snowmass ski resort are stunning.
It is made up of 3,100 acres of steeps, cruisers, 3 terrain parks, 1 super pipe, and 1 beginner pipe which allows for some great family skiing and riding. Its 91 trails and 24 quick lifts will have you back at the top of the mountain in no time. With an annual snowfall of 300 inches, snowmaking is only needed on about 230 acres.
Snowmass is best known for its uncrowded slopes and wide-open perfectly groomed downhill cruising. It has long been rated number one for family ski areas in North America. Snowmass has long been famous for the Big Burn run and they are constantly introducing higher and more challenging terrain for all abilities. Riders can enjoy a short hike to the Long Shot trail where fresh powder is plentiful and a backcountry experience awaits. There is also a daily "Noon Groom" which is a freshly groomed run that is groomed every day before noon so skiers and riders do not have to be the early bird to ride untouched snow. For those early birds Snowmass also offers "First Tracks" on Wednesdays and Fridays, which allows for skiers and riders to join the staff for an early morning run before the crowds.
A competitive and recreational ski racing program called NASTAR is also a Snowmass favorite, groups can also sign up to do a treasure hunt, obstacle course race, and a fun relay race. Other on-mountain activities include Nature tours, Powder Tours, and Snowshoeing. Snowmass also has one of the largest groomed Nordic trails for cross-country skiing in North America.
Children of all ages can experience fun in the new Treehouse Kids adventure center and beginners can hone their skills in the learning area of Elk Camp Meadows. There are also ski lessons for all ages and abilities, snow tubing, and childcare available on the mountain. Lines at the lifts are not a problem with new radio frequency technology on select gates that allow for speedy access with no pass scan or check.
Snowmass is located 12 miles from downtown Aspen and is accessible by free shuttle from anywhere in the area. It has over 95% ski in/ski out lodging which makes this family resort extremely convenient. From slope side villas, to Condominiums, to quaint Bed and breakfasts, there is lodging available for every family and every budget. There are over 12 different eating areas to choose from on the mountain alone and in town you will find a host of other fun shops, fine dining, pizza shops, coffee shops, and activities. With all of the on-mountain and off-mountain activities and amenities it is easy to see why Snowmass demands repeat visits.
