Vail Mountain Resort Guide
About Vail Mountain, resort history, activities, lodging, and dining.
Vail ski resort is the largest in the US located 100 miles west of Denver in Colorado. Time after time it has been voted best ski in North America by readers of many ski magazines and it is easy to see why. Whether you love its record-breaking snowfall, 5,289 acres of unmatched terrain, or its 193 trails, Vail offers a huge variety of territory for riders of all levels. The summit sits at an elevation of 11,570 feet giving way for breathtaking views of the surrounding ranges. Finding fresh powder is never a problem with only two skiers per acre on an average day. Vail has become one of North America's most famous snow filled playgrounds.
Vail provides the largest network of lifts in the world, a total of 33, including 14 high-speed quads and one gondola. A crowd favorite of the mountain is any of the seven world-famous Back Bowls featuring over 2,966 acres of riding terrain. Vail has three terrain parks made up of Jibs, boxes, rails, a half pipe, a quarter pipe, jumps, pyramids, and many more features for the typical adrenalin junkies. Also sharpshooters are on the look out to catch your sickest grabs and biggest air.
One of Vail's proudest accomplishments is its premier ski and snowboard schools that offer over 800 of the top instructors. Lessons are offered from beginner to expert, in many different languages and also taught for students with special needs.
There is always something going on, on and off the mountain. Vail is the premier spot to celebrate your winter season with events including the Dummy Gelunde World Championships, on-mountain bands, base area DJs, and even a snowball eating contest. The mountain never sleeps with nightly entertainment all around, including hoping bar parties, rail jams, and big name bands.
Families will enjoy Adventure ridge, which offers ski bikes, a children’s snowmobile track, huge family tubing lanes, and much more. At night families can huddle by the fire and listen to stories of astronomy and animals hosted by the Gore Range Natural Science School.
The town of Vail is an experience of its own. With over 250 shops, restaurants, bars, and lodging this is the heart of the mountain. A free resort bus system will take vacationers from place to place. If you are not too tired from a day on the slopes, go out and experience Vail’s nightlife. From fun local bars where you can belt out drinking favorites karaoke style, to top club scenes inspired by lounges in Paris, everyone can let loose and get their groove on.
After a full day on the slopes, a long night at the bars, or both, nothing will feel better then a rejuvenating spa visit. Located all around town, the mountain spas will make you feel like you are on top of the world. Vail offers lodging for every budget; some spots are located just steps from the gondola others located in town. From luxurious condos to quaint bed and breakfasts, there is something for every family.
Vail needs no introduction, and its track record speaks for itself. There are no words to describe its beauty, or the trance like state you will be in after you step foot on the mountain. It is the perfect destination for a winter vacation, one that you will remember for years and years to come.
