Christmas Week in Summit County

The Season has kicked off extremely strong here in Summit County. With the help of our Snow God Ullr, Breckenridge has seen snow falling several times each week, leaving the season total at 193 inches as of December 21, 2010 with a Base Depth of 61 inches. With such significant amounts of snow, Breckenridge Ski Resort has 28 of 31 lifts open and 149 of 155 runs open.

The Dew Tour just wrapped up here in Breckenridge and we are expecting to see both the Freeway and Park Lane terrain parks to be re-built this week. Breckenridge is known to have one of the most prestigious parks in the World.

The snow will continue to fall here in Summit County, which will make conditions even better for travelers to the area for the Christmas break. When the snow is deep make sure to find your way up the highest chair in North America and drop into Imperial Bowl or hike up to the Lake Chutes where you can find a large cornice and a steep pitch of 55 degrees.

Make sure you check out Epic Mix! You and your friends can compare your vertical feet skied each day and see who took the most extreme runs of the day.

After a long day on the slopes, make sure to hit the town! You will find the nightlife to be electrifying! There are many great bars lining both sides of Main Street making it easy to find a place where everyone can have a good time. Are you in the mood for music? Make sure to check out the calendar for a list of events going on at three20south.

Summit County also offers three other great mountains all within 30 minutes of Breckenridge. Arapahoe Basin has a new high speed quad at the base of the mountain getting you to mid- mountain in only a few minutes. Neighboring Arapahoe Basin is Keystone home of A-51 terrain park, another one of the best parks in the World. Make sure your kids check out Kidtopia happening each month at Keystone. The Ultimate Snow Fort is located at the top of Dercum Mountain. It will be open for the kids to dance to live music, make arts and crafts, and go disco tubing. Check out the calendar here for dates.

Copper Mountain has a great New Year’s party with a bonfire, fire dancers, glow sticks and more. Wrap the evening up with the traditional New Year’s torchlight parade followed by a Fireworks display over the Mountain.

The snow will only get better as the season continues so make sure to get out on the mountain and see what the buzz is about in Breckenridge!
