Spring is in the Air in Whistler
Whistler is showing the signs of Spring but we are still getting a subtantial amount of snow in the Alpine. We have had 34" this week, with some surpirse sunny Pow Days.
Along with the great skiing we have a week of Social events coming up with the World Ski Snowboard Fest (www.wssf.com) starting April 11-20. This is the biggest annual gathering of winter sports, music, arts and mountain culture in North America. The Motto is "Party in April and Sleep in May". The highlight of these events is the Pro Photographer Showdown where action sports and lifestyle photographers from around the world submit entries for an oppurtunity to earn a trip to Whistler and showcase their work to an audience of sports enthusiasts, media and industry professionals.Entries will be judged as each Photographer competes for over $10,000 in prizes.
Another great spring event is the Whistler Cup. Moving into its 22nd year, Whistler Cup has grown to become the largest and most important ski race in North America, and internationally, for athletes aged 11 to 14 years. With hundreds of young athletes from 23 countries participating, the Whistler Cup brings together children from many different cultures.
Chunky Monkey Overnight Oats
You know those crazy mornings when there isn’t time for breakfast? Like this past week when the mountain predicted 2-inches of fresh snow, only to realize when I woke up it was actually 8+ inches of fresh POW. Weather Patterns in the Rockies - www.OpenSnow.com
What a winter it has been in the Rockies! After a couple mediocre seasons in 2012 and 2013, this year has provided incredible snowfall from start to finish. It seems like the weather patterns have been strong, consistent and exactly what all of us in the ski industry hope for every ski season. If you have not made it out West for a ski trip yet this year, you still have about 6 weeks to do so but you better act fast!
Thanks to our good friends over at www.opensnow.com, we have not missed a beat with weather patterns this year. Many people assume being a meteorologist, is just like playing darts. You throw some out there, hoping that they will be good predictions but really have no idea until it hits whether or not it will work out how you imagined. Open Snow Powder Officers seem to have it figured out and take the guessing game out of weather with accurate forecasts all the time!
If you have not heard of www.opensnow.com, we suggest you start using them for all powder forecasts from New England all the way across the West through Colorado and Utah to California. They know their stuff, especially when it comes to predicting snowfall!
It's almost Apres Season in Aspen and Snowmass
We love skiing and snowboarding; that's why we're here, doing what we do. The adrenaline and risk, the self-competition, the effervescent sensation of floating through powder. Above all, we love the freedom. However, the only thing that stops us from being on the 3:45 lift every riding day is the a simple experience that is the complete and utter opposite: sitting in the sun and drinking a beer. There's something about these two acts that binds them together interminably. The nonstop and the stop, the tension and release, the powder and the hops.Read More...
