Five Must Do’s in Breckenridge This Summer

Trying to get away into the mountains this summer? I know that we are, and where’s a better one-stop destination then Breckenridge. Nestled in the Colorado Rocky Mountains, this little ski town has got a lot more going for it then just skiing. Once summer hits, a whole new realm of possibilities present themselves. From hiking, exploring old gold mines, to taking ghost tours, the activities are endless. Here’s a few of our favorite things to do when we go visit Breckenridge in the summer.

Gold Mine Tours

There’s not many places where you’re able to climb down into a real gold mine, but Breckenridge happens to be one of them. Built in 1887, the Country Boy Mine is one of the oldest gold mines in Colorado with one mine that you can still climb 1000 feet into to learn about the history of life in the gold mines back in the 1800’s. That’s not all Country Boy Mine has to offer. With other attractions like frisbee golf, ax throwing and gold panning there’s more than a few reasons to come check out the old wild west.

Summer Dog Sledding

Now you can enjoy the thrill of the dog sledding in the summertime while taking a tour of the Good Times Dog Sledding. This facility is home to 150 purebred Siberian Huskies and you’ll be able to meet a few of them as you take a tour. Learn all about what it takes to keep these dogs in peak condition during the summer months by one of their experienced mushers as they walk you behind the scenes of their operations. Afterwards you’ll be able to hop on a wheeled cart as the dogs pull you around a scenic 2 mile loop through Swan River Valley.

Alpine Slide/Goldrunner Coaster

Experiences the views that Breckenridge Resort has to offer while you slide down one of several slides or really go for speed on the Goldrunner Coaster. This coaster will bring you through twists and turns 2,500 feet down the mountain. If coasters aren’t your thing you can always try one of the giant alpine slides that are located at Peak 8 base camp. Both activities allow up to two people per sled/coaster and they all have adjustable speeds so they’ll be no need to worry about crashing while you’re taking in the views.

Ghost tours

If you’re more into the spooky side of the wild west and its history you have to sign up for a Breckenridge Ghost Tour. Learn about strange disappearances, kidnappings, and other weird events during the 90 minute Strange But True” tour. There’s also the original ghost tour where you learn all about the ghosts that still remain in Breckenridge to this day, plus ghost hunt equipment is provided.

Beer and Distillery Bike Tour

What better combo for the summer than cold beer, distilleries and bike rides? At Ridden Breckenridge they offer daily fat tire bike tours starting at 11 AM and 2:30 PM. Follow a scenic bike path as you travel between Broken Compass Brewery and Breckenridge Distillery. Broken Compass offers a wide variety of craft brews while Breckenridge Distillery offers a tour of their facility that shows you the process from distillation to bottling. Come enjoy the views and the booze while learning all about the history of Breckenridge on your way.
