Skiing with Kids at Breckenridge

With its big mountain skiing, and its small mountain town vibe, Breckenridge is a favorite resort for families in the Western Hemisphere. Locals love this historic mining town for the steep skiing across five towering peaks, located just 80 miles from Denver. But don’t let those alpine bowls intimidate you into believing this resort isn’t for your family. Families return year after year to ski Breckenridge. Rated as one of the most kid-friendly resorts in the US, both your toddlers and your teenagers will fall in love with this mountain.

Where to Stay

Breckenridge offers a full range of lodging options, ranging from elaborate cabins, to family friendly hotels, to condos equipped with kitchens. Whether you want to stay in town, in the village, or near a bus line, Breckenridge has a room for every budget. Looking for a ski-in lodge to accommodate your large group that offers a ski school? Try the Mountain Thunder Lodge. Looking for a room in the Village with free breakfast? Check out the Village Hotel. Want to go extra grand on your family ski trip? Your little skiers will love the bowling alley, two swimming pools, the movie theater, and the ski-in ski-out One Ski Hill Place. Wherever you choose to stay, we’ll be eager to come find you and give you a boot fitting and help you get your skis dialed in for your trip.

Where to Ski

With nearly 3,000 acres to ski, Breckenridge has plenty of beginner and intermediate terrain for families with beginner skiers. If it’s your little one’s first day on skis, start at the base of Peak 8. With magic carpets and beginner lifts, most of the mellow greens on the mountain can be found here. Is your little one ready to ride the lift? Head to Rip’s Ride and ski down Dragon Trail, and explore the small hidden castle in the woods. Once your little one is feeling a bit more steady on their skis, head to Peak 9, the true family zone of the resort, located at the base of the Village. Peak 9 offers long, consistently gentle runs. Silverthorne and Frontier are flat and wide, perfect for practicing turns. Looking for a little adventure? Take your little skier to the Adventure Zones on Peak 9! You can find tunnels, bridges, and a haunted forest” in Ripperoo’s Forest.

Ski School and Childcare

Do some (or all) of your family need some ski instruction? You’ve come to the right place. The Breckenridge Ski School has instruction tailored for every member of your family. The small class sizes, and diverse types of instruction offered, will make sure you get the exact type of instruction and attention needed. Do you have little ones who aren’t quite old enough for ski school? Send them to the Breckenridge Childcare Center so mom and dad can enjoy some turns on the mountain on their own. Wanna sweeten their day a bit? During your little one’s day at childcare, they can opt for a one hour private lesson with an instructor in the Lil Ripper package.

Family Friendly Apres

Whether you are looking to unbuckle your boots and unwind at the resort, or are wanting to take the party to main street, Breckenridge has plenty of family friendly apres options. At the top of Peak 7, Pioneer Crossing offers a gathering place with sweeping views of the mountain with it’s floor-to-ceiling windows. The western inspired menu offers locally sourced ingredients. Our favorite outdoor decks on sunny days while skiing at Breckenridge, is the TenMile Station at the base of Peak 10. Looking for something on main street? Head to Kenosha, the Best Deck in Breck”! This casual smokehouse has daily specials, a killer happy hour menu, and 31 beers on tap. Sit back and remember your favorite runs of the day, while your little ones play a game of horseshoes.

Family Discounts

Depending on how many days you are planning to skiing during your trip, your best rate for day passes might actually be by purchasing an EPIC pass. If purchased early in the year, you can find particularly good deals on the passes. Another option is to call the resort lodging and see if they are currently running any packages that offer discounts on day passes. Are you a Colorado resident? Make sure to sign your kids up for the EPIC School Kids Colorado Pass, and score 20 free days of skiing.
