Discover Whistler

Part of what makes Whistler Blackcomb consistently top Best Ski Resorts” lists is its size. The resort, which spans two incredible mountains, offers endless options for exploring. Of course, when a ski hill is so huge that 30-year veterans still find new secrets, seeing the best of the best in one trip is a big challenge. Fortunately Whistler Blackcomb has you covered with a number of free resources to help you make your way around, no matter how adventurous you feel. Check out three of our favourites below!

1) The Wonder Routes

The Wonder Routes are a series of self-guided tours designed to help you discover the best of Whistler Blackcomb. There are six routes in total, each with a different theme and catered to different skill sets. From the Family Certified Route to the Steep Sampler, these tours offer all the adventure of finding your way on your own with the guidance to make sure you don’t miss out. When you get fresh snow, make sure to try the Powder Stashes route– you’ll feel just like a local as you make your way to untracked runs. The Top of the World Route is another must, best enjoyed on a bluebird day. You’ll find The Wonder Routes on your trail map, and more information here.

2) Daily Ski and Snowboard Mountain Host Tours

Whistler Blackcomb keeps a team of volunteer Mountain Hosts to offer daily tours to visitors. These hosts are longtime locals, people who have called Whistler home for decades. Mountain Hosts are happy, helpful, and above all, knowledgeable– and every day, they bring tour groups to their favourite places on the mountains. Join them by meeting at the top of the Solar Coaster Express on Blackcomb or at the Guest Satisfaction Centre near the Roundhouse on Whistler at 11:15 am. The perfect way to start a trip, these free tours will help you see the mountains through the eyes of a Whistlerite.

3) Avalanche Awareness Tours

If you’re looking for a more adventurous experience, or if you’re simply curious about the natural phenomena of avalanches, the daily Avalanche Awareness Tours on Blackcomb Mountain are for you. Guided by industry-certified professionals, these tours cater to group interest and experience, and cover topics ranging from safety in backcountry terrain to Whistler Blackcomb’s avalanche management programs. You don’t have to be a thrill-seeker to enjoy these highly educational tours, but you should be comfortable skiing blue runs. Don’t be intimidated by the word avalanche,’ either, as tours offer something for everybody. You might even get to meet one of Blackcomb’s furrier team members, a real life avalanche dog!
