Big Sky, MT is truly a skiers dream. Don’t let your kids get in the way! We kid! But seriously, when you pull up to the resort and see the Lone Peak tram climbing up the staggering face of Lone Mountain, you might be wondering if it was a good idea to bring the whole family to Big Sky. We are here to tell you that this Montana treasure is a winter paradise for families. In fact, we are willing to bet that this might become one of your children’s most memorable destinations.
While Big Sky certainly offers a full range of rental properties, we recommend booking early to get your desired vacation home. Our partners at Big Sky Vacation Rentals, Beehive Vacations, Inspirato, Moonlight Basin and Spanish Peaks Mountain Club cover every property type you and your family could be interested in. From ski-in, ski-out paradises, to more modest condos, these partners have you covered for all your rental needs.
We’re willing to bet that the steep lines off of iconic Lone Mountain were a major driving factor behind why you chose to come to Big Sky. And for good reason! That being said, there is plenty of skiing for the whole family to enjoy. The base of the resort has more than enough runs for beginners and intermediate skiers- in fact, 40% of the terrain is beginner/intermediate. Does your little one (or partner) need a lesson? Enroll them in a clinic while you spend the morning exploring on your own exploring some steeper lines. If you are looking for a truly memorable experience at Big Sky (or want to treat your partner), sign up for a guided ski experience for first tracks watch sunrise light up the face of Lone Mountain.
After a long day of skiing, we are willing to bet that you are going to be HUNGRY. While the village certainly offers a full range of delicious food, the locals head to The Riverhouse BBQ for some of the best BBQ in the west. Be sure to try the brisket, it pairs nicely with locally distilled Willies Montana Honey Moonshine. Your children will love dancing to the live music, and you and your partner might even face off in a game of pool. Looking for something a little closer, quicker, and quieter? Look no further than Yeti Dogs and try their gourmet beef and veggie dogs.
We know, we know, you are going to want to ski every day. But trust us! You need to schedule a day or two to explore the surrounding areas! Whether you spend a day in West Yellowstone, or just go for a quick hike to Ousel falls in Big Sky, you will be amazed at the winter beauty in the area. Our favorite off-mountain adventure? Sign up for an afternoon with The Spirit of the North Dog Sledding Adventure. Your children will never forget the excitement of the sled dogs as they get ready to go, and you will never forget cruising over the beautiful and snowy terrain behind the dog sled team.
